Learn acrylic painting techniques and experiment with color, perspective, and creative composition with renowned painter Virgil Penner on Saturday, July 27th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Located in Newton, KS, Virgil Penner is known for his whimsical acrylic landscape paintings. Virgil studied art under Marie Orr for four years at Newton High School and in college. His paintings are bright and colorful. He constructs his paintings from memory, as he does not paint on location or from photographs. By doing this, he feels he can develop balance and movement in his paintings.
Students will learn about basic acrylic techniques while experimenting with color, perspective, and creative composition. Students will also learn how to take creative liberties with their visual references by making taking away elements and adding others at their choosing.
All materials will be provided by the Hutchinson Art Center, however students are encouraged to bring a photograph from home to draw inspiration from for their sketches and paintings during the class.
Lunch will not be provided on site, however there are many fantastic local lunch options in downtown Hutchinson! Feel free to ask us for recommendations and/or directions to eateries in town.
