MONTHLY CHILDREN’S ART PROJECTS

Join us for monthly children’s art projects here at the Hutchinson Art Center! Two groups will meet during a Saturday afternoon every month from September 2024 through May 2025. This is an opportunity for children aged 6 through 12 to create their own work of art! Students will be divided into two groups: Group A and Group B, with each group covering different skills. Group A meets from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, while Group B meets 3:00 to 4:30 PM. Each group art class costs $8 per child.

Local artist and educator Sara Huff has taught the monthly children’s art projects since February 2024. She has been involved in the arts in Hutchinson as an artist and educator and is currently pursuing an education degree from Wichita State University. She is looking forward to teaching these classes and getting to know her students this year!

Parents can register their child by purchasing a spot using the button below. Hurry! Registration is limited to 15 students/group per month and closes on Friday, January 3rd at 5:00 PM.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign up their child for either Group A or Group B depending on skill level and interest. In general, the Group A project is simpler and aimed toward children aged 6-7, while the Group B project is a bit more complex and is aimed toward children aged 8-12.

We will announce specific art projects and their theme on a monthly basis through May, so check back here regularly to see what projects will be available that month.

January’s theme is Learning Balance Notans!

January 4th, 2025

Balance is an important concept in art and in life so this month children will be creating their own Notan paper art. Notan is a Japanese term that means "light-dark balance".

Group A will explore the concepts of contrast, balance, harmony, repetition and shape as they draw, cut and paste their notans to create interesting, and harmonious works of art using black and white paper.

Group B will explore the concepts of contrast, balance, harmony, repetition and shape as they draw, cut and paste their Notan on top of a water-colored background to create interesting, and harmonious works of art using black and white paper with an added technique of a watercolor background.
