Children's Monthly Art Projects: February - "Learning Balancing Notans"

  • Hutchinson Art Center 405 N Washington St Hutchinson, KS 67501 USA (map)

Some of you might have heard that we cancelled the Monthly Children's Art Projects classes for January due to the snow and ice. Not to worry! The class has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 15th! This is a great opportunity to sign up your child for this class if you missed out the first time.

Children will meet at the Hutchinson Art Center on Saturday, February 15th. Students will be divided into two groups: Group A (1:00 to 2:30 PM) and Group B (3:00 to 4:30 PM), with each group covering different skills. Each group art class costs $8 per child.

The theme for the class project is Learning Balance Notans!

Balance is an important concept in art and in life so this month children will be creating their own Notan paper art. Notan is a Japanese term that means "light-dark balance".

Groups A and B will explore the concepts of contrast, balance, harmony, repetition and shape as they draw, cut, and paste their Notan on top of a colored background to create interesting and harmonious works of art using black and white paper with an added watercolor technique to create their colored backgrounds.
