Artist Talk: Michael Schlyer

We invite you to join us at the Hutchinson Art Center for an artist talk by ceramist Michael Schlyer on December 4th starting at 2:00 PM. Learn more about the artist’s creative process and his journey as a sculptor in Kansas for the past fifty years.

His exhibition "Stoneware Pottery" is on display in our Main Gallery from November 11th through December 10th.

Michael Schlyer was born in Fresno, California on August 23rd, 1942. He studied art at University of Mexico and Fort Hays State University, graduating with his MFA in 1976. Some of Michael’s artistic accomplishments include teaching high school art in Ashland, Kansas and developing the school’s art program. He also taught art at Southeast High School in Wichita, Kansas and served as the artist in residence for Wichita Public Schools in the 1970s. Michael owned and operated Flat Earth Clay Works from 1976 to 2016, and has participated in juried art shows and arts festivals, fairs and shows for over forty years. His artwork is represented in private and public collections throughout the United States, including Disney World, the Corning Glass Museum, Wichita Art Museum, Spiritual Life Chapel, and many other museums and organizations.
