Front Gallery: Adult Workshop Student Artwork

  • Hutchinson Art Center 405 N Washington St Hutchinson, KS 67501 USA (map)

The Hutchinson Art Center's adult workshop for surrealist drawing presented many challenging and unusual projects to its students. They were asked to draw without thinking- to try to draw something that doesn't look like anything. The students experimented with "frottage", the French word for "rubbings". They created expressive ink and charcoal drawings that they were then asked to cut up and collage together again to create entirely different images. At one point, they were even asked to cut up each other's drawings and turn those into something completely new! Our surrealism students learned how to take old paper and blend it with water to create paper pulp, and then learned how to turn that pulp back into paper. They used examples from their life and past experiences to fuel their creativity and translate their written stories into full-blown art pieces.
The surrealism students have been hard at work and we are very pleased to be able to share some of their creations with the public. Thank you for helping us support our students!
