Barbara Stevens: Front Gallery Exhibit

The Hutchinson Art Center is currently exhibiting Barbara Stevens’ 3-dimensional, nature-inspired sculptures in our Front Gallery! Her artwork will be on display at the Art Center through Sunday, June 26th. Read on to learn more about Barbara.

Barbara was raised in central Kansas where she graduated in 1971 with a BA degree in Art from Fort Hays State University.  Ceramic sculpture was her main area of concentration in college and her father always joked that he paid good money for her to major in ‘mud pies’, since that was her favorite childhood past time on her family farm.  It was an unusual choice for a girl from this part of the country and she thanks my parents for never doubting her choice.  Stevens went on to teach art to students from 4 years of age to 84 years.  She received her MLS from FHSU in 2005 in Graphic Design.  She ended her teaching career by being Head of the Art Department at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS. for thirteen years.  Stevens retired from that position in May 2013 and now enjoys the luxury of time to spend on her art, family and friends, swimming, kayaking and traveling.
